Early morning breakfast. Depart Colombo early in the morning and visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, home to around 80 elephants who are either abandoned or orphaned. This is the only orphanage in the world set up for wild elephants. Here you witness the normal lifestyle of elephants including feeding of baby elephants, having meals and fascinating scene of elephant bathing. Yapahuwa Yapahuwa was one of the ephemeral capitals of medieval Sri Lanka. The citadel of Yapahuwa lying midway between Kurunagala and Anuradhapura was built around a huge granite rock rising abruptly almost a hundred meters above the surrounding lowlands. OVERNIGHT STAY AT YAPAHUWA OR DAMBULLA Day 2 - DAMBULLA TO ANURADAPURA via Aukana Dambulla Dambulla is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dambulla Rock temple is the main attraction of Dambulla. That is the first place that we are going to see. Dambulla Rock Temple was built by King Valagamba in 1st Century BC, as a gratitude to the Monks in Dambulla for providing refuge to his 14 years exile from Anuradhapura. This magnificent Dambulla Cave Temple has 48 Buddha Statues After breakfast -from Dambulla we head towards Anuradhapura.Anuradhapura is the first capital of Sri Lanka. Anuradhapura has been the capital of Sri Lanka from the 4th century BC, until the beginning of the 11th century AD. It was the Royal Kingdom for 119 kings before it was abandoned and the capital moved to Polonnaruwa. After some sightseeing in Anuradhapura, we will check into the hotel. DINNER AND OVERNIGHT STAY AT - ANURADAPURA DAY 3 - ANURADHAPURA – POLONNARUWA Breakfast at the Hotel and visit to Polonarruwa. Polonnaruwa Polonnaruwa was the second capital of Sri Lanka. Polonnaruwa was selected as the capital because it gave time to organize defenses in times of foreign invasion. The Hero of the Polonnaruwa era was King Parakramabahu the 1st. Polonnaruwa was abandoned in 14th Century and moved to Dambadeniya. Polonnaruwa will be the stop over for the day. DINNER AND OVERNIGHT STAY AT – POLONNARUWA DAY 4 - POLONNARUWA to DAMBULLA via SIGIRIYA Breakfast at the hotel and visit to Sigiriya Sigiriya Sigiriya was built in to a fortress by King Kashyapa in 477-495 AD. A Palace built on a Rock. The summit of the Sigiriya rock is almost 200m and it is surrounded by jungle. The entrance of the rock was transformed to resemble a lion by the addition of bricks. Its arts and mirror wall, engineering of the water gardens will amaze you. Sigiriya is also the stop over for the day. Excursion – Minneriya National Park DINNER AND OVERNIGHT STAY AT - DAMBULLA DAY 5 - DAMBULLA - SIGIRIYA to KANDY via Matale Breakfast at the Hotel and Visit to Kandy Kandy Kandy is the last Capital of ancient Sri Lanka’s Kingdom era. Dalada Maligawa Temple in Kandy, houses the most sacred Buddhist relic, the Tooth of Lord Buddha. It is the most prominent city outside of Colombo and also known as the Hill Capital of Sri Lanka and is the center for Buddhism and Culture. After the visit to the Dalada Maligawa, you have the day for yourselves to explore the city at your own pace. In the evening we will check in at our hotel. Excursion – Evening Cultural Show. DINNER AND OVERNIGHT STAY AT – KANDY Day -6 - KANDY TO BENTOTA Bentota, Sri Lanka is 90 km from Sri Lanka's international airport and 60 km from Colombo. Bentota is a popular and fully geared tourist resort. Facing the Indian Ocean, a tropical lagoon and a major river Bentota offers water sports possibilities nowhere else to be found. Safe swimming conditions combined with fun water sport and exciting excursions are providing for the ideal background for a relaxed holiday in Sri Lanka. The many 5* hotels are often build in fantastic locations and even if you don't stay there drop in for a tea and enjoy the scenery. Especially for families Bentota is a well sought after destination. But Bentota is not only 5*. You still can find many mid-range and budget places along the river or the southern beaches. Being one of the most established beach resorts in Sri Lanka, Bentota is known for its professional touristic infrastructure. You will relax on the golden sunny beaches before heading towards Colombo. DINNER AND OVERNIGHT STAY AT - BENTOTA DAY 07 - BENTOTA – COLOMBO After early breakfast you will come back to Colombo. It is the end of an amazing journey. You will be transferred to Airport to go to your next destination according to your travel plans. |
